What the Site Covers
The site covers everything related to solo cruising, from planning and organising to cruise lines, ships, destinations, dining and what the experience is really like once you're on board.
Why the Site Exists
One of the reasons I started Solos At Sea is because I've loved cruising ever since my first cruise in 2009. If I can't be on a cruise, I'm usually thinking about one, planning one, or writing about cruising.
Another reason is that I've met so many people over the years who've said they'd love to book a cruise but have nobody to go with and feel too nervous to go alone. Having now taken numerous solo cruises myself, I know that cruising can be one of the easiest and most enjoyable ways to holiday alone, so my aim for this site is that it helps allay those fears and encourages more people to try a solo cruise.
My Cruise Experience
Cruising is my favourite way to travel and I’m always interested in discovering new ships, cruise lines and destinations, particularly when they offer good value for people travelling alone.

Why I Write Anonymously
Solos At Sea is written anonymously, which I realise is rather unusual for a travel blog. I'm a solo female cruiser and I feel safer travelling and writing without the risk of being recognised.
There's another reason for the anonymity, too: I used to work as a mystery shopper and that showed me that experiencing a service as an ordinary customer leads to more genuine and helpful observations. I'd rather experience a cruise the way any other passenger might, without staff recognising me or treating me differently because they know I write about cruising.
Independent Views
Payment or incentives will never influence the opinions shared on Solos At Sea as I want the site to be useful and candid, especially for solo cruisers comparing prices, choosing a ship or deciding if a particular cruise is right for them.
